What is a psychologist and psychotherapist?
A psychologist is a specialist who diagnoses, supports, and develops mental health. They provide consultations, psychological testing, and help understand emotions and life’s challenges.
A psychotherapist, on the other hand, conducts a long-term therapeutic process that allows for effective work on emotional problems, traumas, mood disorders, and anxiety. At Ginemedica, we offer both short-term psychological support and psychotherapy tailored to the patient’s individual needs.
Concerns worth seeking help for
- Chronic stress and tension
- Anxiety attacks, panic attacks
- Low mood, depression
- Difficulties in relationships
- Low self-esteem
- Concentration problems and excessive impulsivity (ADHD)
- Eating disorders
- Support after trauma or the loss of a loved one
What is a visit to a psychologist or psychotherapist like?
The first visit is a consultation – the specialist discusses the patient’s difficulties, life history, and expectations. Based on this, a plan of action is established: short-term support or a series of therapeutic sessions. Psychotherapy is a longer process, based on trust and regular sessions. At Ginemedica, we provide a safe, empathetic space for conversation and self-improvement.
Scope of Psychological and Psychotherapeutic Services
- Psychological consultation for kinds and adults
- Individual psychotherapy
- Couples psychotherapy

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is one of the most researched and effective approaches to psychotherapy. It is based on the premise that our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors influence each other – by changing how we think and act, we can improve our well-being and quality of life. Cognitive behavioral therapy typically has a clearly defined goal, focuses on the “here and now,” and provides patients with specific tools for coping with everyday challenges.
It is recommended for individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, stress, mood disorders, relationship difficulties, or low self-esteem, as well as for anyone who wants to better understand their thinking patterns and implement lasting changes in their lives.

Systemic approach is based on the assumption that people function within various relational systems – family, relationships, social groups, or professional groups – and that emotional difficulties are often related to the nature of these relationships. Therapy helps understand communication patterns, roles played in relationships, and the mechanisms that can maintain conflict or tension. The focus is not only on the individual but also on their environment and how they influence each other.
Systemic psychotherapy is particularly recommended for couples, families, and individuals experiencing relationship difficulties, family conflicts, relationship crises, or parenting challenges. It can also be helpful for those seeking to better understand their functioning in interpersonal relationships.

Psychodynamic therapy is a therapeutic approach that focuses on uncovering unconscious emotions, experiences, and patterns from the past. It assumes that our past relationships and experiences can influence our current behaviors, emotions, and the way we build relationships with others. Psychodynamic therapy helps us better understand ourselves, our needs, and the mechanisms that can cause psychological distress or recurring difficulties.
Psychodynamic psychotherapy is recommended for individuals struggling with low mood, anxiety, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem, or recurring emotional crises. It is also effective for those who want to gain deeper self-knowledge and work on lasting change in their functioning.

Integrative psychotherapy combines various therapeutic approaches and utilizes methods derived from various psychological strands. The therapist tailors the approach individually to the patient’s needs, difficulties, and goals. This makes therapy flexible and can encompass work on emotions, thoughts, and behaviors, as well as relationships and past experiences.
Integrative psychotherapy is recommended for individuals seeking individually tailored support who want to better understand themselves, improve their quality of life, and more effectively cope with everyday emotional or relational challenges.

Gestalt therapy is a psychotherapeutic approach that focuses on awareness of one’s own emotions, needs, and experiences experienced “here and now.” Therapy helps one better understand oneself, notice one’s reactions, and build more authentic relationships with others. Emphasis is placed on developing self-awareness, taking responsibility for one’s own decisions, and connecting with one’s emotions and body.
Gestalt therapy is recommended for individuals who want to better understand themselves, increase their sense of agency, improve relationships with others, and learn to more fully experience and express emotions. It can also be helpful during periods of life change, crisis, or feelings of confusion.

Solution-Focused Therapy (SFTT) is a therapeutic approach that focuses primarily on the patient’s potential, resources, and strengths, rather than solely on analyzing problems. The goal of therapy is to find effective solutions and implement real changes in daily life. Therapy typically has a specific goal, focuses on the future, and helps strengthen what is already working well.
SFTT is recommended for individuals who want to work on a specific challenge or goal, need practical support, and are looking for a short-term, outcome-focused form of therapy. It is effective for crisis situations, relationship problems, parenting challenges, and a decreased sense of agency, among other things.

Its goal is to help individuals understand the mechanisms of addiction, identify factors that maintain addiction, and develop healthy ways to cope with emotions and difficulties.
Addiction therapy is recommended for individuals who experience a loss of control over their behavior or substance use, experience negative consequences of addiction, and want to regain balance and improve their quality of life.

FAQ
What is this trend in psychotherapy?
There are different schools of psychology that explain the mechanisms of disorders in a different way and propose different methods of treating them – a set of given concepts is called a trend.
The most popular of them include: psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, solution-focused, Ericksonian, systemic, gestalt.
There is no one best trend. Its choice is influenced by the type of diagnosed disorder, the severity of symptoms, the diagnostic assessment of the determinants of the disorder, as well as the assessment of the patient’s motivation and resources.
What is the difference between a psychologist, psychotherapist and psychiatrist?
A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who has completed medical studies. Deals with diagnosis and pharmacological treatment (medications). He is authorized to issue sick leaves, prescriptions and referrals. He does not conduct therapy. Visits usually last about 20-40 minutes.
Psychologist is a profession that requires a master’s degree in psychology. It can issue certificates, opinions and psychological judgments. It deals primarily with everyday life problems (conflicts, depression, problems at work, changes in life). Consultations are in the form of assistance. Psychologists often have diagnostic specialization.
A psychotherapist is a person with higher education (often psychology) who is undergoing or has already completed specialized training in psychotherapy. He deals with long-term therapy, the aim of which is to change the patient’s functioning.
What does creating a personality profile involve?
Getting to know your personality profile is aimed at getting to know yourself better. It helps you answer the question “what am I?” and measure features important from the point of view of everyday functioning and create a psychological characteristic of a given person – strengths and weaknesses, functioning in the professional, social, motivational, emotional and relationship spheres.
What is the purpose of diagnosing personality disorders?
The diagnosis aims to determine difficulties, disorders and the causes of their occurrence. It allows us to answer the question whether we are dealing with personality disorders and to determine what type they are. It also allows you to isolate resources and determine the patient’s difficulties. It also aims to propose a type of therapy and determine changes that should be introduced in the treatment process.
