Diabetology and dietetics

Diabetology is the branch of medicine concerned with the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diabetes (and pre-diabetes), as well as other metabolic diseases associated with disorders of carbohydrate metabolism.

Diabetes is now one of the most common diseases of civilisation. As a chronic and incurable disease, diabetes requires long-term treatment in close cooperation with a diabetologist.

Dietetics is a branch of medicine that deals with the influence of food and nutrition on human health. Among other things, a dietician teaches the principles of healthy eating and prepares dietary recommendations for healthy people and people with various diseases, including overweight and obesity, insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, irritable bowel syndrome and polycystic ovary syndrome.

Psychodietetics also supports people with eating disorders: anorexia, bulimia, and overeating attacks.

Doctors can also be certified in the treatment of overweight and obesity by, among others, the Polish Society for the Study of Obesity and the Polish Society for the Treatment of Obesity.
