Diabetic foot is one of the chronic complications of diabetes. It occurs in both type 1 and type 2 diabetes and is an ulceration (either a shallow or deep break in skin continuity) usually located on the sole or dorsal aspect of the foot. It most commonly occurs under the heads of the metatarsal bones, on the dorsum of the toes or on the heel. Peripheral neuropathy is considered the main cause of diabetic foot. The diabetic foot is devoid of pain and temperature sensation. The ulceration may be accompanied by foot deformity.
