Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a group of neurodevelopmental disorders which manifest in early childhood and persist throughout the lifetime.
Individuals with ASD experience difficulties in communication and social interactions and exhibit repetitive patterns of behaviour and interests. The severity of symptoms varies widely, making the autism spectrum very broad.
It is estimated that ASD affects over 1% of the population, with a diagnosis being four times more common in boys than in girls.
Symptoms and Diagnosis
The primary symptoms of ASD include:
· difficulty in establishing and maintaining social relationships
· limited or atypical verbal and non-verbal communication
· repetitive behaviours and a strong attachment to routines
· intense, selective interests
· atypical sensory responses (e.g., hypersensitivity to sounds, light, or touch)
Early diagnosis and treatment of ASD are crucial in improving the functioning and quality of life of affected individuals. If your child has been diagnosed with ASD or you suspect ASD, we invite you to our clinic, where we can find the best way for support and therapy.
